About Alexis Laurel
Alexis has dedicated herself to a life of creative vision and innovative design. She enjoys the process of hand carving each jewelry piece, using one of a kind gems and recycled solid metals. Her jewelry represents a unique meditative journey towards creative enlightenment.
Alexis studied painting, sculptural design, and footwear at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Alexis began her career designing accessories and fashion footwear. As a design director for global brands, she traveled to factories around the world to source materials and develop product.
During her travels Alexis observed the production practices of large fashion brands, and decided there was a more meaningful way to make accessories. A way that valued the people who made the product and the environment that provided the materials.
Alexis founded her own jewelry brand to make meaningful objects using ethical sourcing and natural sustainable solid materials. She handcrafts each piece of jewelry at her own bench. Alexis Laurel Jewelry is made to be worn every day, and to be passed down for generations.
For the Splash Collection, Alexis finds treasures and surrounds them with solid molten silver and gold. The Collection draws inspiration from the beautiful blue-green lake in Michigan that Alexis grew up on. Alexis spent her summers on the lake collecting minerals, antiques and various other treasures to add to her family’s heirloom jewelry.
Alexis was inspired and driven to expand her artistic practices into the ancient disciplines of metalsmithing, and wax carving.
Taking a moment to reflect upon the powers of gemstones and minerals feels like one of life’s magical moments. She aims to sculpt an tiny object that capture the feeling of the exact moment in which each treasure was found, effortlessly supported by the natural elements. Utilizing organic shaped minerals and stones along with masterly techniques allows the jewelry to bare an elemental quality that is rich in tradition.
Keeping the powers close is essential to approaching a positive spiritual life; that is key to the constant evolutionary process we all share. Preserve your treasures carefully for the next.
